The Hera Athens
Award Submission Books
The Hera Athens: 57 residences in Kolonos, Athens, created from the former headquarters of the fashion brand Lussile.
The Hera Athens is a 57-apartment residential development by VAKON in Kolonos, Athens. It is the conversion of a 1990s commercial building, once the headquarters of the Greek fashion brand Lussile, where the founder's private rooftop pool has become a shared pool for residents.
VAKON entered the development into the European Property Awards 2026–2027 in two categories, Architecture Multiple Residence and Residential Developments 20+ Units, and I designed a submission book for each. Both won.
The challenge was to turn a large amount of technical material (floor plans, sections, safety systems, specifications) into something that reads like a considered editorial object. I designed The Hera Athens wordmark and built a quiet visual system around it: IvyPresto and Montserrat, a navy, stone and white palette, and a two-page grid flexible enough to carry full-bleed renders, architectural drawings and dense specification pages across both books.
The written content was supplied by the client. I proposed the pull-quotes that run through both books as full navy pages, and shaped several of the section titles.
I designed The Hera Athens wordmark in IvyPresto, a serif with a classical feel that suits a building with a history. For reading I paired it with Montserrat, and kept the palette to navy, stone and white so the renders and drawings could stand out. Both books share one two-page grid, flexible enough to hold full-bleed renders, architectural drawings and dense specification pages.
The founder's note, set with generous space and signed by hand.
To show the quality of the specification, I gave each finish its own frame in the materials section. I set the brands used in one apartment in a symmetrical table, so the reader can take in the whole list in one look.
On the closing of each chapter, I proposed pull-quotes set on full navy pages. They give the reader a pause and remind the judges what the building is about beyond the numbers.
The safety, security and compliance chapters held some of the densest information in the books. I used iconography to break the safety systems into short sections that can be scanned in seconds, and paired the compliance notes with full-height interior renders to keep the rhythm of the book going.
